The simple hush of winter
has settled round our home,
wildlife weaving snow designs
while they scavenge and roam.
Two brilliant cardinals
share suet hanging on the wall
so unaware of dot-coms
and excesses at the mall.
Do you think they felt the tizzy
as 2017 flashed by?
Sensed the ebb and flow of human-tide,
the crest of joys and depth of sighs?
Watching chickadees and finches
find us from above,
calms the soul, opens the heart
to receive the season’s love.
Do you suppose the Holy Child
sensed the wildlife in that night?
Do you suppose the wildlife sensed
the wonder of His light?
Our wish for friends and family
is to find a quiet space
for you to fill with Christmas peace
bound up in bows and lace.
